Adopt

Thank you for your interest in adopting! Our adoption process is designed to make thoughtful, well-matched placements that are best for both our dogs and their future families.

Step 1:
Browse Our Dogs

Start by visiting our available dogs on Adopt-A-Pet.

Please take time to read each dog’s full bio. Our bios include important details about personality, energy level, training needs, and ideal home environment.

Make sure the dog feels like a realistic fit for your lifestyle, home, and experience level.

Step 2:
Submit an Adoption Application

If you find a dog you’re interested in, you can apply online.

Please apply only when you are truly ready to adopt.

We understand that everyone’s timeline is different, and we kindly ask that you wait to submit an application until you are in a position to bring a dog home if selected. Because we are unable to hold dogs, we cannot move forward with applications for families who are still weeks (or longer) away from adopting, planning vacations, or waiting on housing changes.

This helps our volunteer team focus their time on applicants who are ready to take the next step.

A few important notes about applications:

  • If you are applying as a couple or household, please include references that reflect both adults, not just one person

  • We require three references, and a mix is totally fine

  • Please take your time and be thorough — thoughtful applications help us make better matches

Step 3:
Application Review

Depending on the dog’s popularity, application reviews can take several days to up to two weeks. We are a volunteer-run organization, and we truly appreciate your patience.

We are not first-come, first-served; applications are reviewed based on best fit for the dog, not speed.

For extremely popular dogs, we may not be able to respond to every applicant.

Please know that a lack of response or a “no” is never personal — it simply means we’re prioritizing what we feel is the best placement for that specific dog.

Step 4:
Meet & Greet

If your application feels like a potential match, an adoption advocate will reach out via email to discuss the dog further and, if appropriate, invite you to a meet-and-greet (please be sure to check your spam folder just in case).

Meet-and-greets are a chance for you to get to know the dog and for us to get to know our potential adopters in person – they are not a guaranteed adoption. Sometimes adoptions happen the same day; other times families take time to think, or we may suggest a different dog who’s a better fit.

Meet & Greet Requirements:

All adults or children who live in the home must be present at the meet-and-greet. Any resident dogs must also attend so we can assess compatibility. This helps us ensure the best and safest match for everyone involved.

Our goal is always the same: the right match, not the fastest one.

Not Chosen For A Dog?

We only have one of each dog, and while we wish we could place every dog with every loving applicant, that isn’t always possible. Thank you for understanding that our responsibility is first and foremost to the dogs in our care.

If you are not selected for the dog you applied for, your application will be kept on file. You're welcome to email us in the future if another dog catches your eye without submitting a new application.

If you’re open-minded, patient, and willing to trust the process, we’ll do our very best to help you find the right fit!

Many adopters ultimately find their perfect match with a dog they didn’t originally apply for and we’re always happy to help guide that process!
